Ode To Ireland
Antonio Breschi & Friends expand the horizons of world music by weaving jazz and other influences with traditional Celtic sound on the excellent "Ode To Ireland." Listen to this album once and you'll understand why this Italian-born composer and pianist is often called the father of world music and new age music.
Breschi's friends on "Ode To Ireland" include guitarist Jane Cassidy; bassist Steve Cooney; flautist and fiddler Johnny McCarthy; percussionist David Hopkins; and uilleann pipe player Joe McHugh. The interplay between these fine musicians results in some truly adventurous takes on these compositions, with Breschi leading some incredible improvisational passages. Check out "The Dancing Leaves" and listen as Breschi stretches out the song from its Celtic roots into a jazz piano romp. The band also sticks with more traditional Celtic tunes like "Jig in the Caste," an example of old-time Irish music at its best.
"Ode To Ireland" was named Best LP of the Year by the Jecklin music store in Zurich, Switzerland when it was first released in 1982. The album was re-issued by International PICK Records in 1985 and is now available through JPMC Records.
